Access Statement
Introduction
Jasmine Cottage is run by Pat and Keith Wenborn. The property is found in the hamlet of Bish Mill 2 miles from the market town of South Molton. We have 3 guest rooms located in Jasmine Chapel opposite Jasmine Cottage. Two are located on the ground floor with en-suite wet rooms and one is upstairs with its own private bathroom. Please feel free to call us if you have any specific questions.
We are a non-smoking establishment throughout.
Pre-Arrival

We can be contacted by telephone, email or post.

We have a website through which enquiries and bookings can be made. We usually request a deposit as confirmation of a booking.

A letter of confirmation, map and brochure is sent with all bookings.

The main railway station is at Tiverton Parkway which is 22 miles away, or at Barnstaple which is 14 miles away.

There is a bus service from Tiverton Parkway to South Molton and from South Molton into Barnstaple. There is a limited service from Bish Mill into South Molton – more frequent on Thurs. and Sat. market days.

There are a number of taxi companies in South Molton and we can make a booking for you if required.

There is a Shopmobility Scheme in Barnstaple.
Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

Please advise us of your expected arrival time so that we can be here to welcome you. A complimentary fresh Devon cream tea or a piece of homemade cake is available on arrival served in the conservatory. If your arrival is late this can be organised with us for the next day if appropriate.

To ensure the accommodation is ready, we ask that guests don't normally arrive before 4 p.m. but an earlier arrival may be possible by arrangement on booking.

Bish Mill is located on the B3227 road signposted South Molton. On turning onto the B3227 proceed for approx. 700 yards passing the Mill Inn on your right. Jasmine Cottage is found by turning left down a small concreted farm lane. We have a large sign displayed outside.

The accommodation is located in Jasmine Chapel which is 3 metres from the main cottage.

Parking is situated through the gates which we will open on your arrival and there is parking for 3 cars.

Guests can park outside the Chapel to unload luggage and then move to the parking area, as the lane is used for access to one other property and a farm. We can assist guests with luggage if necessary.

The entrance to the Chapel is accessed by a small step of 4 cm.

The door to the Chapel is 90cm wide.

The entrance is illuminated at night and the Chapel and Cottage have security lighting.
Main Entrance and Reception

On arrival guests can contact us by ringing the doorbell of the cottage at the front or by using the doorbell situated on the conservatory door at the side of the property, through the gates next to the parking area overlooking the garden.

There is a ramp available for access to the conservatory as it is approached by 2 steps.

Guests have a key to the main Chapel door so they can come and go as they please.
Conservatory

Breakfast is served in the conservatory of the main cottage.

The conservatory is located at the side of the cottage through the gates. It is approximately 19 metres from the Chapel to the main entrance. Umbrellas are provided for guests' use between the Chapel and conservatory if necessary.

The tables can be moved to accommodate family/ friendship groups on request.

There is a buffet area for cereals, fruit, yoghurts, etc.

Vegetarian options and other dietary requirements can be catered for. Please inform us when booking.

The conservatory is used by the owners but can also be used by guests at certain times of the day in addition to having breakfast. There is a variety of birds which visit the feeders during the day and can be observed from the conservatory.
Storage/Drying Facilities

There is a covered garage space which can be used for the storage of bicycles or surfboards. Items can be secured but are stored at the owners' own risk.

There is room in the garage space to dry a small amount of outdoor clothing and footwear.

Please discuss your requirements regarding this when booking or on arrival.
Outdoor Facilities

Access to our garden is by a ramp which has a hand rail.

There is a small path through the garden.

There is a pond, lawn area, flower beds and vegetable plots.

Please feel free to enjoy our garden but please respect the plants and wildlife that live there. Ensure that your children or dogs are supervised at all times.

Chairs and tables are set up in the garden and can be used by guests.
Bedrooms

Access to Jasmine Chapel is through the porch where there is a 4cm step, this 100cm wide and 70cm deep. The porch is lit and has a grab rail.

The Barum and Lundy rooms have double beds, the Exmoor has a king size bed that can be arranged as a 2 single beds.

All the electrical points, light switches and sockets are accessible from a wheelchair.

All rooms have an electric shaving point.
-
All rooms have central heating.
-
All rooms have a small refrigerator which is primarily for milk.

There are lever taps to all basins and in upstairs to the bath. There is an alarm clock in each room.

Each bedroom has a satellite television with a remote control and DVD.

We can provide extra pillows and blankets if requested.

There is a hospitality tray in each room to make hot drinks.

There are bedside lights.
-
There is a wardrobe and drawers in each room.

The Chapel has electric smoke alarms installed. Please advise us if you have a hearing impairment and might not hear this.

We have wireless/broadband facility.

The rooms downstairs are called the Exmoor and Barum rooms; the room upstairs is called the Lundy room.

The 2 downstairs bedrooms are suitable for some wheelchair users.

The ground floor has a wood laminate surface. Non slip rugs are situated either side of the bed.

The space between bed and wet room is 110cm
-
The space between the end of the bed and the wall in the Exmoor room is 50cm and in the Barum room 40cm.

Between the bed and the window the space is 60cm.
-
The wet rooms are completely tiled and have an easy access shower area; the shower area is accessed by a 3cm step and is 110cm x 110cm.

The Lundy room is on the first floor and is accessed via the stairs.
-
The first floor is exclusively used by the occupants of the Lundy room.

The bathroom has a bath, shower over the bath, wash basin and toilet.

Mobile phone reception is variable; Guests can use our land line for important calls for a small charge.

We can store medication or foods for guests. Access 24 hours by arrangement with owners.

We do accept dogs by arrangement.
About the Owners

Retiring to Devon has been our dream for many years. In 2008 we moved to this lovely area set in the beautiful countryside within easy reach of the dramatic and exciting coastline.

Jasmine Cottage with its annexe Jasmine Chapel provides rooms for our visitors. Many of our friends have told us how difficult is to find holiday accommodation when you have a physical disability, we have tried to address some of these problems.

The owners have over 20 years of experience of working with people with Physical Disabilities. Keith has been with involved with Disabled sport from helping out at club level to managing the Great Britain Football team at the 1992 Paralympics. He worked for a local council helping Disabled people to live independently at home, helping with care packages, adaptations and aids. He also worked for 2 years as Manager of Sheltered Home Complex for residents aged over 60.

We both have Food Hygiene certificates, First Aid Certificates and Fire Safety Awareness Certificates.

We enjoy gardening, cooking, bird watching, rambling, social life in the local pub, (skittles, pub quiz and company).
